Also, the backgrounds used for the slides are selected by the javascript code and poked into the DOM depending on the orientation, portrait or landscape, of the image.

I used quite a few different resources whilst implementing this, but the main inspiration was Eric Meyers Project 2 in the excellent ‘More on CSS’ book.
